The artist's talk with Nicoletta Grillo begins with Noi (Boite Editions, 2022), a photobook that brings together images of her mother and fragments from her personal diaries. After her mother's death, Grillo discovered a box containing forty film rolls: photographs taken in Milan in the late 1970s, portraying feminist demonstrations and everyday life. Through a reworking of photographs and words, the book interweaves family history and political engagement.
Unfolding as a dialogue with curator Valentina Bianchi, the conversation will move between the intimate and the political, through projects that use photography as documentation, memory, and as a powerful tool to portray lived experience. From "Noi", we will follow the threads connecting this work to the rest of her practice and relevant precedents, placing her work in relation to the artist book collection at Vue Gallery and beyond—tracing links to other publications that work through personal and collective histories.
