Sofia Caesar

Sofia Caesar is an artist from Rio de Janeiro (BR) based in Brussels (BE). Her art practice is rooted in dance. It results in works in various media that care for ways of coming together (humans and more-than-humans). Her interests span social choreography, performance, photography and critical theory, with a focus on feminism and ecology.

In recent years, Caesar has shown work and collaborated with several art institutions, galleries, and collectives. These include Transmediale (DE), Munch Museum (NO), Bienalsur (ARG), Moscow Biennale (RUS), M HKA (BE), SFMOMA (USA), Tomie Ohtake Institute (BR), Centro de Arte Hélio Oiticica (BR), and others. From 2013-15 she took part in the School of Missing Studies, contributing to the 31st São Paulo Biennial and the 2015 Jakarta Biennale. Her work is part of several collections, such as FRAC Pays de La Loire (FR), as well as she has received several prizes, including Rumos Itaú Cultural (BR).
